LANDESKRANKENHAUS FELDKIRCH WILL BRING NEW HOPE TO CANCER PATIENTS IN WESTERN AUSTRIA WITH THE HELP OF ELEKTA TECHNOLOGY AND SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS

Elekta, a world leader in advanced radiation treatment of cancer and brain disorders, today announced an order from Landeskrankenhaus Feldkirch, Austria. The order includes two Elekta Synergy®, advanced treatment systems for intensity modulated and image guided radiation therapy (IMRT & IGRT). The order also includes MOSAIQ™, a comprehensive oncology information management software suite from IMPAC Medical Systems, an Elekta company. The total contract is valued at over 8 MEUR and includes a service contract spanning over the equipments entire expected lifetime.
The radiation oncology department at Landeskrankenhaus Feldkirch is offering high level radiation therapy for about 1,000 patients annually. With the installation of the two new Elekta Synergy systems equipped with integrated high-resolution 3D X-ray volume imaging capability for IGRT along with advanced IMRT, the radiation oncology department in Feldkirch will be able to offer these new and innovative methods for irradiating tumors with extremely high precision and accuracy. The initial order was booked by Elekta in January, and the installation will begin near the end of 2007.
The hospital will also install MOSAIQ, a comprehensive oncology information management solution, on more than 30 workstations, allowing oncologists and radiation therapists at the hospital to streamline its processes and seamlessly share information entered into the electronical medical records. MOSAIQ will optimize the radiation oncology workflow and support retrieval and management of data stored by the hospital departments as needed for advanced radiation therapy. It will be the first installation of this kind of oncology information software system for a regional cancer center in Austria.

The Landeskrankenhaus Feldkirch, a 660-bed-hospital, is the main regional health care center for the Austrian Federal State of Vorarlberg. The hospital serves an area of about 400,000 inhabitants in the westernmost state of Austria bordering Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Germany.
