ELEKTA RECEIVES MULTIPLE ELEKTA SYNERGY® ORDERS FROM AUSTRALIA
Stockholm, April 21, 2006
Elekta, a world leader in advanced radiation therapy, comprehensive cancer management and non-invasive treatment of brain disorders, today announced two new Elekta Synergy® orders from North Coast Area Health Service in New South Wales, Australia. These orders together with recent orders from Austin Health Hospital in Heidelberg, Victoria and Townsville Hospital, Queensland, are proof of Elekta’s increasing impact on cancer care in Australia and represents in total an order value in excess of AUD 10 million.
The concept of image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and Elekta’s 3D X-ray Volume Imaging is rapidly gaining clinical acceptance all over the world. Not less so in Australia where for example the recent 9th International Workshop on Electronic Portal Imaging, held in Melbourne, April 8-12, featured three presentations on IGRT on Elekta Synergy. The most recent Australian orders for Elekta’s pioneering IGRT technology come from clinics located in Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie in New South Wales, both part of the North Coast Area Health Service (NCAHS). These new customers to Elekta also invested in oncology information management systems from IMPAC Medical Systems - an Elekta company - including MOSAIQ™, the world’s most advanced electronic medical record (EMR) system for oncology clinics. In March, Elekta also received orders for advanced digital linear accelerators from Austin Health Hospital in Heidelberg, Victoria, also equipped with IGRT technology and the MOSAIQ EMR system, and from Townsville Hospital in Queensland. These systems are already delivered.“We chose Elekta since 3D X-ray Volume Imaging on Elekta Synergy is now very well established and has been proven clinically at so many sites throughout the world”, says Mr. Dominic Au-Yeung, Manager of Radiation Oncology at Austin Health Hospital, and continues; “at Austin, we are looking forward to the new systems being installed in June this year”.Elekta have recently also installed IMPAC’s electronic medical record system at Radiation Oncology Victoria (ROV) in Melbourne, which is now successfully up and running in all four of their current centers and installed at the soon to be opened fifth center, all integrating the operations and treatment process on linear accelerators from different suppliers.“We are very pleased with the recent development in Australia where Elekta now holds a strong position. We can offer a comprehensive solution in the fight against cancer from the most innovative digital linear accelerator on the market to the best software solution for oncology information management, a combination very well adapted to today’s customer demand”, summarizes Brendan J. Vahey, Managing Director and head of Elekta’s Business Unit Australia.********
