Elekta secures major win with IMSS: Eight linacs to revolutionize cancer treatment in Mexico
MEXICO CITY – Elekta (EKTA-B.ST) announced today that it has won a public tender for eight linear accelerators (linacs) from the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS), Mexico's largest public healthcare and social security institution. This significant order marks a major milestone in Elekta's ongoing efforts to support Mexico's healthcare system and enhance cancer treatment capabilities across the country.
IMSS operates a comprehensive healthcare network across the country, including over 1,500 hospitals and clinics. In the past two years, Elekta has successfully installed linacs at IMSS locations in Puebla, Mexico City, Tijuana, Torreon, Monterrey, Mérida, Guadalajara, and León.
For this current project, Elekta has also established a collaboration agreement with Philips to address IMSS’s radiation oncology therapy simulation imaging needs, building on the strategic partnership between the companies announced in 2021.
Raul Ocampo Mangin, Elekta's Vice President, Latin America, said: "We are thrilled to have been awarded this significant order from IMSS. This achievement underscores Elekta's commitment to meeting Mexico's healthcare needs and its ability to deliver advanced precision radiation therapy solutions. We look forward to continuing our partnership with IMSS and supporting their efforts to enhance healthcare services across the country."
In addition to Philips, Elekta is collaborating with Human Corporis, a recognized leader in integrated services in Mexico’s medical sector, to address construction-related matters for this project. Through this partnership, nearly a dozen Elekta linacs have been installed at government sites.
